Learn about the history of the Bahá'ís in Penang,  from the visit of the first believer in 1883 until the establishment of the permanent Local Spiritual Assembly in 1958. The story of the establishment of the Faith in Penang, much like the story of Penang itself, spans continents and involves people from all over the world coming to this cosmopolitan place to practice their faith freely.

This meticulously researched exhibit includes rare documents such a personal letter from Mahatma Gandhi to one of the founders of the Faith in Malaya as well as a telegram of condolence from Tunku Abdul Rahman to the family of his friend Yankee Leong - who was first Bahá’í of Malaya - upon hearing of his death.

Includes rare photographs of Penang at the turn of the 19th century from the Marcus Langdon collection.

- Researched and curated by author and Penang history researcher, Eugene Quah.

Exhibit II : Days to Naw-Rúz

A mini exhibition about what it means to be a Bahá'í and an exploration of the days leading to the Bahá’í New Year called Naw-Rúz which includes the intercalary days and 19-day period of fasting.

Learn about the fascinating Bahá’í solar calendar and its astronomical and spiritual significance.
