The Baháʼí Community of Penang invites everyone to join us to usher in a joyous, meaningful and beautiful Naw-Rúz (B.E. 182)
Springtime at the Bahá'í House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois, United States.
Join us this March 19, 2025 at our Naw-Rùz celebrations at the Penang Harmony Centre.
Naw-Rúz, which means "New Day" in Persian, is a spiritually significant time for Baha'is worldwide; a time of renewal, reflection, and rejuvenation.
Between March 20th and 21st, Baha’is celebrate Naw-Rúz, which marks the beginning of a new year in the Baháʼí Calendar. This joyous occasion follows the end of the 19-day Baháʼí Fast, a period of introspection, and spiritual reinvigoration.
Baháʼu'lláh, the Messenger of God, ordained Naw-Rúz as a celebration of humanity’s spiritual springtime. This holy day symbolizes both individual renewal and mankind’s revitalization, and it's a celebration of a new dawn.
“It is a day of joy, a time of happiness, a period of spiritual growth. I beg of God that this divine spiritual civilization may have the fullest impression and effect upon you. May you become as growing plants. May the trees of your hearts bring forth new leaves and variegated blossoms. May ideal fruits appear from them in order that the world of humanity, which has grown and developed in material civilization, may be quickened in the bringing forth of spiritual ideals.” – ʻAbdu'l-Bahá
According to ʻAbdu'l-Bahá, "At the time of the vernal equinox in the material world, a wonderful vibrant energy and new life-quickening is observed everywhere in the vegetable kingdom; the animal and human kingdoms are resuscitated and move forward with a new impulse. The whole world is born anew, resurrected… Likewise, the spiritual bounty and springtime of God quicken the world of humanity with a new animus and vivification. All the virtues which have been deposited and potential in human hearts are being revealed from that Reality as flowers and blossoms from divine gardens."

Founded more than a century and a half ago, the Bahá'í Faith has spread around the globe, with members from nearly every nation, culture, and background.

Twin Celebration Lunch at Hickory Bungalow, Penang Hill
Some community members went up to to Hickory Bungalow at Penang Hill to celebrate the Twin Festivals. The weather was especially cool that day.
After a 20 minute walk to the bungalow from the train station, everyone had a great appetite. The amazing view reminded everyone of the magnificence of God's creation and the significance of the day.

Celebration of the Festival of the Twin Birthdays at the Bahá'í Centre
“The Festival of the Twin Birthdays” or “Twin Holy Days” celebrates the birth of the Bab and Baha’u’llah, two of the most important figure of the Faith, the Herald and the Messenger of God respectively.
The Bahá'í community gathered for a pot luck dinner followed by prayers and many music performances.

Community Art Project at Gusto Café
In conjunction with the Twin Holy Days celebrations, the Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong community organised a community Art Project at Gusto Café at Hillside.
The art material were sponsored by the Penang Bahá'í community and was opened to the general public. 40 people, comprising an equal mix of children and adults produced two work of art using the paint pouring technique under the guidance of local architect and artist Lim Woon Hun.

Brief History of the Community
The Local Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Penang was formed on 21st April 1958. The first Bahá'í came to Penang as early as 1883. This inaugural Spiritual Assembly was also the first ever Assembly formed in any of the Northern states of Malaysia (then known as Malaya).
Today, more than 6 decades since the Bahá'í Community was established in Penang, believers still come from all walks of life and remain steadfast in working towards creating a new and peaceful world civilization based on principles of justice, prosperity, and continuing advancement.
